What is CO2 insufflator?
A CO2 insufflator is a specialized device for establishing and maintaining pneumoperitoneum during laparoscopic surgery. It increases intra-abdominal pressure, expands the surgical space, and removes smoke, providing a favorable operating environment.
I. Composition of a CO2 Insufflator
The CO2 insufflator consists of a main console and accessories. The main unit includes a pressure reducing valve, solenoid valve, pressure sensor, flow sensor, power supply, display device, smoke extraction filter assembly, and heating interface for the insufflator tube. Accessories include a power cord, heated insufflator tube, insufflator tube, air inlet tube, smoke extraction tube, and foot switch.

II. How CO2 insufflator works?
The insufflator infuses medical-grade CO2 gas into the abdominal cavity, separating the abdominal wall from the internal organs and creating a surgical operating and visual field. When the predetermined pressure is reached, the insufflation automatically stops, maintaining a stable volume of gas to keep the abdominal cavity inflated at the predetermined pressure.
III. Features of the IKEDA CO2 Insufflator:
1. High Flow Rate: The IKEDA CO2 insufflator boasts a higher flow rate and more precise adjustment, with a gas flow rate reaching 50L/min. It maintains abdominal pressure, and in the event of gas leakage or removal of instruments, the insufflator can rapidly replenish gas in real time, instantly stabilizing abdominal pressure and preventing the surgical field from collapsing due to a sudden drop in abdominal pressure, ensuring surgical continuity and safety.
2. External Heating Function: Utilizing a spiral heating insufflator tube, it evenly heats the gas. This heats the CO2 gas to body temperature before it enters the abdominal cavity, reducing the risk of intraoperative hypothermia and avoiding complications caused by cold punctures, thus alleviating postoperative pain.
3. Smoke Removal Function: During laparoscopic surgery, the use of energy instruments generates surgical smoke, which can affect the clarity of the surgical field and hinder the smooth progress of the procedure. Compared to ordinary insufflators, IKEDA's smoke extraction function maintains a clear surgical field at all times, improving surgical smoothness and shortening operation time;
4. Multi-Stage Filtration: The filtration rate for particles 0.5μm and larger in the gas is greater than or equal to 90%, ensuring a clean surgical environment.
5. The insufflator can operate in a fully automatic mode after the pressure is set. When the intra-abdominal pressure is lower than the set value, the insufflator inflates the abdomen. When the pressure reaches the set value, inflation stops. If the intra-abdominal pressure exceeds the set value for any reason, the insufflator will sound an alarm and automatically expel air from the abdominal cavity to ensure constant intra-abdominal pressure and patient safety.
